Şinasi Yelkenci, who calls herself “Marine Scavenger”, has no art education. He is constantly working to catch the ideal of "clean sea", which he started twenty years ago by collecting garbage from the seas. At the end of the twenty years, when the seas are cleared of an ant, they turn those garbage into artworks.
The aim of Yelkenci is to draw attention to environmental pollution and the massacre of nature, which has become increasingly impossible to recover. For years, he collects garbage of the seas on different beaches with environmentally sensitive volunteers. Previously, he started to make various motifs on the beach from the seaside. These instant works were only permanent in the photo frames. His work in Burgazada,Turkey where he went for four years on the weekends, attracted the attention of the people of the island.
Their fellow islanders began to put pressure on Yelkenci saying, "You have to make these works permanent." “His works in Burgazada have changed dimensions with the encouragement of his friends and the garbage has turned into works of art. Marine scavenger Şinasi Yelkenci reports that she will continue to create sensitivity in her country, which is surrounded on three sides by the sea. At the 6th International Marine Debris Conference held in San Diego in the USA, the video of their work is watched by taking part in the presentation as part of the Splash Trash Art Expo.
